Learning about staying safe online is very important. At Woodlands Academy, we make sure our pupils are aware of the risks to safety that are online and what they need to do to stay safe. In class, the children have regular discussions about how to stay safe online and the dangers they may face on the internet.
As part of our curriculum and the development of ICT skills, we provide access to the internet only in teacher supervised lessons. We strongly believe that the use of the internet is hugely beneficial and an essential tool for children in the modern world. But because there are always concerns about children having access to undesirable materials, we have taken positive steps to deal with this risk in school. Our school operates a filtering system that restricts access to inappropriate materials.
We have a set of SMART rules which the children are expected to follow at home and in school to make sure they stay safe online:
These rules can be viewed on our MLE portal and should be followed when using all kinds of technology such as mobile phones, games consoles and home computers.
